What's your dream career?
Submitted by Something.
I'm stealing this idea from a friend of mine that I met during my art school days. I would love to be a location scout, where I would get paid by photographers, movie directors, artists, etc. to find locations that fit exactly what they were looking for. Living out of a suitcase, off on my own to find hidden gems everywhere from Massachusetts to Malaysia.
Granted, I have no idea if a career like this even exists, but the point of a "dream" career is to go outside the box, right? I mean, if a girl can't have her dreams, then what can she have?
Let's make a list. What are 20 things in your life that you're grateful for?
Inspired by wyndslash.vox.com.
There are typical responses that most people will jot down when asked this question (family, friends, a place to live, a job, etc.) so rather than bore you with that (because I truly am grateful for those things and don't need to be reminded of them by putting them on my Vox) I give you a list of 20 alternative things in my life that I'm grateful for!
20. Bay Area slang like "hella," "hyphy," and "what it do."
Because you're never too old to say this stuff if you represent the Bay, yadadaimean?
19. Helvetica Neue.
18. My broad shoulders.
They give me an hourglass shape without which I'd just look like a pear.
17. Wall-to-wall carpeting.
16. Squishy pillows.
15. Being single.
The fun stuff more often than not outlasts the "OMG, NO ONE LUVS ME!" feelings.
14. Nearby purikura booths.
13. Cosplayers.
Sure, there are some that are bat-shit crazy, but most give me nothing but inspiration.
12. My sense of rhythm that I probably inherited from my Dad.
11. Music nerds.
10. Nerds in general.
09. Music that allows me to shake my ass like it's nobody's business.
Currently shakin' what my Mama gave me to Beyonce's "Ring The Alarm."
08. My sneaker collection.
07. Folks on the internets who share the same random interests as me and then find me and say hello.
06. The random fun stuff in my room.
Including, but not limited to, the fish hat, RUN-DMC action figures and octopus tape dispenser.
Wouldn't be able to support that random photo habit on Flickr otherwise.
04. Fashionistas.
For simultaneously inspiring and discouraging me from wearing certain things.
03. Private karaoke rooms.
02. Finding Nemo, The Princess Bride and Chocolat.
"Good afternoon! We're gonna have a great jump today!"
01. You, for reading my drabble.
Awww... *single tear*

He's only mostly dead.
No more rhymes now, I mean it.
Anybody want a peanut?
Do you want me to send you back to where you were? Unemployed? In Greenland?!
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well known is this: Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha... ha ahahaha ha.. HAHA HA H--
Good night, Westley. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning.
Get back, witch!
I'm not a witch, I'm your wife! But after what you just said I'm not even sure I want to be that anymore!
Inconceivable!
You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
As you wish.
What's your motto?
There are two, actually.
1) I'd rather regret doing something than regret never trying it.
2) If it's FREE... I'll take THREE!
Dirty babeWhat song or lyrics are stuck in your head at the moment? What album is it from?

Baby I'm your slave

It's just that no one makes me feel this way
Justin Timberlake, "SexyBack"
from the upcoming FutureSex / LoveSounds album
And, yes, I just admitted to screaming like a 13-year-old girl at a Justin Timberlake concert. No shame here!
Who's your favorite movie villain?
Maleficent from Disney's Sleeping Beauty was the first one that popped into my head. I remember being absolutely amazed as a kid that not only could she call upon the forces of Hell to serve her, but she also could say "Hell" in a cartoon without getting censored.
Plus, she had the best costume out of all the Disney vilains: horned headgear, green-tinged skin without looking like a frog, requisite long black robe (but with added bonus of purple trim), big pimpin' ring and staff. Oh, and you couldn't mess with her pet crow, either.
Did I mention the woman could transform into a dragon? And that her primary target of rage was a little girl? So that makes her bad ass and shameless, two very important features in any good villain.
What books are on your nightstand?
I picked up The Lovely Bones after having heard about it from one of my friends. Centered around a young girl who was brutally murdered, it follows her experiences after death and how she's able to follow the goings-on on earth. Definitely not on the "I see dead people." creepy side, it's a really interesting look at the author's view of heaven and life after death. While you and the girl know who killed her the family doesn't and it goes through the frustrations of both the family who can't solve the mystery and of the girl who can't communicate to her family what really happened.
Not quite done with it yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the whole thing pans out.
Another friend of mine let me on to this manga called Red River. It's a bit formulaic at times with all the "girl magically gets transported to the past, becomes famous, falls in love without realizing it, wants to go home, but is now torn because she wants to help the people she's with while at the same time is in danger because people want to kill her" stuff (yeah, if you can believe it, that's actually a fairly common formula in manga). But, I find myself enjoying it because of all the Fertile Crescent references and half-naked warrior guys (did I just say that?).
I wouldn't necessarily call it a "Must Read," (that title belongs to Monster by Naoki Urasawa) but if you like romance-y, angst-ridden stuff with ancient magic undertones then give it a shot. I think my friend who lent it to me described it best, "It's like Fushigi Yuugi without the ridiculously stupid, annoying main character."
